All students should have the opportunity to develop skills necessary to succeed, learn and lead in the 21st century.
While we believe technology is a key area to explore, it's what we use to supplement our curriculum and enhance our classroom learning environment. Our classrooms have iPads, chromebooks and/or laptops available for use after teachers provide class instruction for individualized exercises that provide additional practice for those who need it or allow some to further explore topics beyond the pace of most of the class.
Our STEM class is an additional time spent focused on the 4 areas: Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics
Our STEM room is setup to use laptops, tablets and even put the technology aside for some other hands on learning. Below are just a few of the topics covered.
Students will learn about word processing, spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations both through Microsoft Office and Google. Students will work with Google Forms to take and/or write surveys and assessments. Through the Google Suite, students use cooperation, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.
Why Coding? Learning to program supports learning in other areas, like math, reading, and science. Computer Coding is the development of steps/instruction to complete a task or accomplish a goal using technology. Students will be applying problem solving, logic and critical thinking skills through a variety of programs.
Digital Citizenship is more than just a teaching tool; it is a way to prepare students/technology users for a society full of technology. Digital citizenship is the norms of appropriate, responsible technology use.
Through these principles, students will think critically to evaluate websites, email and other content online.
