Summer Sports Camps: Building Skills and Confidence By: Tessa Pinkerton, Admissions and Marketing Photo By: Mark McLean, Varsity Boy’s Soccer Coach
School will be out before we know it and families will be looking for opportunities to fill the days with fun and a chance to see friends, while creating new memories. Once again this year, Nouvel Catholic Central will be offering summer sports camps for kids to have an exciting opportunity to stay active, build skills and grow both on and off the field - all while having fun with friends, both old and new.
Nouvel’s varsity athletic teams will be offering camps that are open to the community and hosted throughout the month of June. Whether a child is new to a sport or looking to improve their performance, these camps provide a supportive environment where athletes of all levels can thrive. With a focus on fundamentals and teamwork, camps create meaningful experiences that extend far beyond the game. Drew Weigl, Nouvel’s varsity football coach shared, “Our summer sports camps give young athletes the chance to learn, grow and have fun while experiencing the faith, teamwork and character that define Nouvel athletics. One of the best parts is seeing our high school athletes work with the younger campers, building relationships and serving as role models while strengthening the sense of family in our program.”
The relationships formed between the older student-athletes and younger athletes is one of highlights each year of the Nouvel camps, for both age groups. Senior tennis player, Jveen Murad has volunteered and said, “I love helping at the tennis camp each summer because it’s so rewarding to watch kids grow in confidence. Even when they mess up, their excitement when they succeed is one of the best feelings.” Kindergarten parent, Kelly Breasbois, shared, “Our 6-year-old looks forward to tennis camp every year, and that’s entirely because of the amazing girls, and coaches, who volunteer their time to make it so special. They’ve helped spark a genuine love for the game in her, build her confidence in her skills, and have become incredible role models she looks up to. Having the chance to explore athletics in such a positive, encouraging environment at a young age has been truly invaluable for our family.”
The sports camps offered this summer include: baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis and volleyball. Nouvel’s athletic trainer, Jesse Torres will also be offering a speed and agility camp. More information and registration is available at www.NouvelCatholic.org/SummerAthletics. The team athletic camps include a shirt or jersey for each camper.
Summer sports camps are one a few ways that Nouvel creates a strong sense of community, where every child has the opportunity to grow. As campers work together, encourage one another and build friendships, they begin to feel connected and supported. Nouvel’s student-athletes enjoy incredible opportunities to lead in the community and shine in the classroom or on the court. They receive the benefit of smaller class sizes and individualized attention. For more information on Nouvel athletics, please visit www.NouvelCatholic.org/Explore.
