Dear Nouvel Catholic Central High School Parents,
Over the weekend, we were informed of two positive cases of COVID-19 in the high school building. We are currently working to conduct contact tracing. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure that we can reduce the impact of preventable transmission and quarantines related to these cases, the high school will hold classes virtually on Tuesday, September 7th. (High school staff are to report.)
Contact Tracing:
We will continue to work diligently this evening to contact anyone that is considered a close contact based on the information available to us at this time. This process will continue during the morning of Tuesday, September 7th, as we consult with the Saginaw County Health Department as well as teachers to review possible close contacts that may have occurred as a result of classroom proximity. It is our hope that this temporary move to virtual instruction will allow us to break possible transmission and avoid quarantines that could occur because of contact during the school day on Tuesday, September 7th.
The Saginaw County Health Department issued updated guidance for quarantines on August 12, 2021. This full document can be found here. Portions of that document are included below as a courtesy.
EXPOSURE OUTSIDE OF THE HOME
Vaccinated – do not need to quarantine but should monitor for symptoms
Unvaccinated – quarantine for 14 days. This means staying home and away from others through Day 14. There are two acceptable alternatives if 14 days poses a work or school hardship:
• 10 days, while continuing to wear a mask indoors for the full 14 days and monitoring for symptoms or
• 7 days with a negative PCR test taken 3-5 days after exposure, while continuing to wear a mask indoors for the full 14 days and monitoring for symptoms
Academic Expectations for Tuesday, September 7th:
First hour will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Second through Seventh hour will begin at the normally scheduled times
Any materials needed for the day will be available on google classroom
Students are expected to check google classroom for information and expectations for class onTuesday, September 7th
Any work assigned on Tuesday will be due no sooner than Thursday, September 9th (assuming we return to in-person instruction on Wednesday, September 8th)
Any student that has limited ability to engage virtually should contact his/her teacher
Athletics Expectations for Tuesday, September 7th:
At this time, we plan to continue with athletic events scheduled for Tuesday, September 7th. We realize that some fall student-athletes may not be able to attend practice/games due to transportation limitations beyond their control. Any student-athlete that cannot practice on Tuesday should communicate with his/her coach. Any absence related to factors beyond the control of the student-athlete will be considered excused.
Future Update:
High school families should expect an update by noon on Tuesday, September 7th. This communication will include a status update on contact tracing and the plan for Wednesday, September 8th.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to strive to protect our students and community while we work to thoroughly complete contact tracing. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Respectfully,
Dan Decuf, NCCHS Principal
Cormac Lynn, Superintendent
