It is with heavy hearts that our Nouvel community mourns the loss of Mrs. Lee Elsenia Porterfield, who is being laid to rest today. Mrs. Porterfield created the Friendship Award as a way to honor students who gave back to their community. She began this award at Saginaw High back in 1967 and then extended the award's impact to Nouvel Catholic Central in 2000, and eventually expanding to Bridgeport HS.
For the past 19 years, 10 Nouvel graduates each received a financial award for their service to the community, something Mrs. Porterfield was very passionate about. Thanks to Mrs. Porterfield's generosity, more than 190 of our graduates have been impacted by this award. In the past few years, Mrs. Porterfield would knit a beautiful blanket for us to share with a deserving recipient. Our deepest gratitude to Mrs. Porterfield - may our students carry on her legacy in the great ways that she did!
