As the weather begins to warm up and the sun starts to shine, spring sports are ready to begin. The Nouvel Girls Tennis team is experienced and ready to hit the hardcourts and show how much work they have put in. Three years in a row, the team has qualified for states, including last year’s Regional title; the team’s first in 11 years. Not satisfied with just last year’s success, they hope to become back-to-back regional champions and again qualify for states. Coached by former Nouvel tennis players and cousins Meghan Lawler-Aird and Kelsey Lawler-Lucas, they shared, “The team this year is incredibly talented, and we are very excited to see what this season holds. Everyone stepped up their game and worked in the off-season.”
Meghan’s father, Tom Lawler, started the Nouvel Girls Tennis Team in 1999 and handed his legacy to his daughter. The Lawler family support has been integral to the enthusiasm and success of the girls tennis program. The team has a total of 24 players and the top 12 is filled with a variety of sophomores through seniors.
But Lawler-Aird and Lawler-Lucas would be the first ones to give the girls on the team credit. “We have 7 seniors that set a good example, both on and off the courts,” the coaches commented. “Their dedication to the team these past 4 years makes the program what it is today.”
