Nouvel Panthers Have Much to Celebrate This Fall
By Ann Kamano, Class of 2027
Fall sports at Nouvel Catholic Central High School are one thing no one wants to miss out on, whether it’s being a part of the team or cheering in the stands. There are a wide variety of sports students can choose from, with some Panthers playing more than one sport in the same season. Student-athletes accomplish so much by pushing themselves in and out of the classroom due to determination, skill, and improvement. Mr. Matt Solek, Athletic Director, shared that, “Success happens on and off the playing surface. We are proud of their athletic achievements and involvement in our community, as they develop as leaders in our faith community.” With encouragement from dedicated coaches and teammates, student-athletes advance on the courts and fields, showing their school spirit and strength, defining Nouvel Catholic Central.
Nouvel volleyball is a sport that has consistently filled three teams; freshman, JV, and varsity. This season, the varsity advanced to district finals, which shows their dedication and hard work to reach that point. The future volleyball program is looking great, with so many junior high students playing at a younger age.
Football had a great season this year with a regular season record of 8-1. This impressive record led them to qualify for the postseason. Coaching and teamwork were a main factor in achieving this successful record. The fans and community of Nouvel were seen cheering them on game after game!
The cross country team saw growth as the season progressed. Personal times were continually improved through each meet, setting a high standard for future Panther runners. A few runners, including some junior high students, were recognized in the TVC rankings at the end of the season. Three of the Panther seniors enjoyed the opportunity to finish their cross country careers at the 2024 MHSAA cross country finals held on Saturday, November 2.
Girls golf faced quite a challenge with so many seniors graduating last year. Yet with the guidance of their coach, they were able to battle a challenging season. With upholding such a positive attitude, the team improved throughout the season as well as learned more about the game. With this growth, it will be exciting to see how far the team comes along in the future.
Nouvel’s boys soccer also had a great season and advanced to a district semi-final game. A third of the team was new this year and worked hard to come together so quickly as a team with the guidance of the coaches. They had an enjoyable season while also showing off their talent on the field.
The boys tennis team was exciting to watch. They won matches during the regular season and placed third at regionals, behind two of the top five teams in the state. That regional victory qualified them for a ticket to states on October 21. This was the fourth straight year that the Panthers competed at the state level. They showed their determination in wanting to win any match they faced while also showing off their Panther pride.
With 22 varsity sports options at Nouvel, Panthers have many opportunities to compete outside of the classroom. Panther student-athletes receive the benefit of smaller class sizes and individualized attention in the classroom, while having many incredible opportunities to shine on the court and as leaders in their community.
