At Nouvel Catholic Central, homecoming is a great way for the community to come together to celebrate faith, family and Panther football. This year, the homecoming celebrations will shine a light on 40 years and the positive influence the school has had on the community, Nouvel alumni and the worldwide areas that the alumni impact.
In the fall of 1984, the first group of Nouvel Panthers took to the classrooms and the athletic arenas. With an emphasis on educating a well-rounded student, developed in an environment of faith, the spirit of the Panther community and school pride drove many of the extracurriculars, events and athletics. The first Nouvel yearbook was published with the title, “Celebrate: A New Era”. That very first year, the school started with a Fall Fest celebration, in lieu of a traditional homecoming, and began many of the traditions still celebrated today.
Academically, Nouvel continues to prioritize the education of the whole child and nurtures each Panther’s talents in a loving, safe, faith-filled environment. Nouvel has two campuses that proudly serve students PreK3 through 12th grade, ensuring that all students are prepared for success, every step of the way.
Service above self, continues to be seen even 40 years later as students continue to go above and beyond volunteering on campus, in their parishes and churches and throughout the community. The class of 2024 served more than 7,300 hours during their high school years. Nouvel takes great pride in seeing alumni continue that spirit of giving on college campuses, within their parishes, throughout their professional careers, as coaches and community leaders. After 40 years, it is remarkable to see alumni return back to their alma mater as parents. One such alumni is Jennifer Thieme Kehres, class of 2003 and proud parent to 3 Nouvel Panthers. She, like many parents at Nouvel, enjoys volunteering when able in order to be involved in the school and feel a part of the close knit community. Jennifer shared, “Growing up in the Nouvel community, this mindset was instilled in me. Our school was the perfect size where I could get involved in a variety of sports, clubs and activities. Community service hours were required and there were many times we did class projects to help our community. Since graduating from Nouvel, I've been a volunteer almost continually in a variety of organizations.”
Panther Pride, 40 years later, is still a key component of campus and going stronger than ever - as the school community rallies behind their dynamic athletic teams. The new era, as Nouvel, has seen many outstanding athletic successes. Nouvel’s programs have developed student-athletes through education and competition. Since its inception, Nouvel athletes have collectively won 30 State Championship/runner up finishes and 81 MHSAA Regional Championships. The program has proudly produced 8 MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Scholarship recipients and numerous Academic All-State and MHSAA Good Sports are Winners teams.
Nouvel Catholic Central will publicly celebrate as a community on Friday, October 4th at the homecoming festivities. The homecoming theme, picked by students just like in 1984, is Jukebox Jams and includes theme days and special activities, during and after the school day. Community members are encouraged to join Nouvel on Friday for their parade and football game. The parade will start at 4:30 at the Elementary campus and conclude at the High School and Junior High campus. The football game will kickoff at 7 p.m. Several class reunions will celebrate fellowship alongside the Nouvel community the following weekend at Nouvel’s 2nd Annual Gala on Saturday, October 12. The annual event will shine a light on what makes Nouvel special, while raising funds for current and future Panther success.
