On Sunday, October 14, Nouvel Catholic Central students and families joined members from local Parishes and the community at the Annual Saginaw County CROP Walk. This effort is driven amongst our Nouvel families each year thanks to NCCS teacher, Teresa Colucci. "When I walked in the 20-mile Greater Boston Walk for Hunger in the Spring of 1984 I had a wonderful experience meeting new people and feeling the solidarity of all of us working together toward the common good. I've been hooked since then", shared Mrs. Colucci.
Each year she encourages students and families to participate, get donations of support and share how the CROP Walk efforts make an impact both locally and nationally. Parent, Sarah Collison and her family were one of the families who came out for the event this year. Sarah shared, "Mrs. Colucci has such pride in partaking in the CROP Walk, it makes a person feel like we should be doing our part to feed the hungry.
Student Lillian Collison shared she got involved to "help feed the homeless in Saginaw and the World!" Local charities such as Hidden Harvest and the East Side Soup Kitchen will receive 25% of the donations dedicated to stay here in Saginaw County. The other 75% of the funds raised are administered by Church World Service and are used toward both disaster relief and self-help programs. These efforts help people in the moment of need as well as long term, they learn how to feed themselves more effectively.
If you would like to get more involved in the future or have any questions about these efforts, please contact Mrs. Colucci at (989) 399-2435 or via email.
