The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association will host the annual East/West All-Star Game on Saturday, June 22 at 1 p.m. at Lawrence Tech University in Southfield, Mich.
Nouvel Catholic Central is proud to have both a coach and player represented in the esteemed game. Congratulations to Varsity Head Coach, Andrew Weigl and Class of 2024 Wide Receiver, Tristen Elizalde for being selected to participate on the West team.
Andrew Weigl (Nouvel C/O 2004) stands as a cornerstone of Nouvel Catholic Central’s football program. He was a standout linebacker for Nouvel Catholic Central from 2000-2003 and was a four-year varsity player at Hope College. He returned to Nouvel in 2009, first joining as an assistant coach and assuming his current role as varsity head coach in 2019. With his dedication to fostering a winning culture through hard work and camaraderie, Weigl’s leadership
ensures that Nouvel remains a powerhouse within Michigan high school football.
During Weigl’s coaching career, Nouvel Catholic Central has shown consistent excellence on the field with a record of 101 wins and 48 losses. His tenure also includes 16 total playoff victories across 11 appearances, 4 district titles, 2 regional championships, a state runner-up finish, and a memorable state championship victory in 2011.
Weigl’s coaching excellence extends beyond the impressive statistics; his ability to inspire and develop young athletes has been pivotal in shaping not just their football skills, but also in developing character, sportsmanship and resiliency. He trains alongside his student athletes in the weight room and on the field, provides guidance to the young men on his team through offseason leadership meetings and guarantees a bright future for Nouvel athletics by hosting engaging youth development programs for our youngest athletes. Weigl’s commitment to the
football program and enthusiasm for advancing athletics at Nouvel has earned him respect both within the school community and statewide among coaching peers.
In recognition of his achievements, Weigl is one of ten football coaches in the state of Michigan selected to coach in the prestigious Michigan High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) All-Star Game. Weigl is the first coach from Nouvel Catholic Central to be recognized with this honor. Nouvel is proud to recognize this alum, coach and faculty member for his remarkable achievement. His impact on the football program remains indelible, setting a standard of excellence for the years to come.
In the realm of high school football talent, Tristen Elizalde has emerged as a standout wide receiver for Nouvel Catholic Central. His athletic achievement and dedication to the sport have earned him a selection on the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association West All-Star team, a prestigious honor that reflects his work ethic and exceptional skill. Elizalde’s journey as an athlete at Nouvel Catholic Central has been marked by consistent
growth and achievement. He was a 3-year starting wide receiver, amassing over 1500 passing yards and 17 career touchdowns. He earned Tri-Valley White All-Conference honors twice and was selected to the All-Region team and Saginaw Dream Team in 2023. Elizalde has committed to continuing his football career at Saginaw Valley State University.
As Elizalde prepares to showcase his talents at the All-Star level, he stands as a testament to the talent cultivated at Nouvel Catholic Central under Coach Weigl and his staff. Elizalde’s performance highlights the potential for both individual success and team triumph within the program. Nouvel extends our sincere congratulations to a most deserving student athlete.
During halftime, the MHSFCA will also honor long-time Nouvel Catholic Central football coach Greg Meter on his recent Assistant Coach of the Year award.
