Every year, October 10 is recognized as World Mental Health Day. In honor of the day and our on-going efforts around supporting our students, we wanted to share a few examples of what this looks like on campus.
1.) The picture featured is of the QR code that is available in every classroom, in the restrooms and throughout campus. This allows students an additional way of quickly reaching out for support.
2.) Quarterly push-ins by Mrs. Boros, our school counselor, to address mental health, coping skill development, self-awareness, education and traditional guidance support.
3.) Crisis resource cards can be found throughout the school for students to take with them, provide to friends, family, etc.
4.) Coordination with Children's Grief Center of GLB to begin grief support group to further support any student who has experienced grief due to the loss of a friend, family member or loved one.
5.) Implementing SEL lessons funded by the Michigan CARES act. Navigate360 utilized the Michigan Virtual platform to provide scaffolded lessons promoting positive coping skills, mental health education, and character development that utilized evidence-based practices. That also includes an evolving library or resources for teachers and counselors to deliver in the classroom setting. Each lesson also includes supplemental parent handouts.
6. 1:1 counseling as needed with referral resources available for more pervasive mental health needs.
