On Saturday, February 22, two Nouvel Catholic Central teams competed in the Region IV Science Olympiad competition, hosted at Delta College.
The Region IV Science Olympiad includes Division B (grades 6-9) and Division C (grades 9-12) and includes schools from eight counties. Teams then compete in 23 events.
The Nouvel Catholic Central High School team came home with a second place trophy and an invitation to compete at the State Finals at Michigan State University on Saturday, April 25. The High School team is coached by Mr. Mark Bradtke and Mr. Mike Rangitsch.
For the first time this year, there was a team from Nouvel Catholic Central Middle School competing. The students earned eight medals under the coaching of Mr. Bill Hendricks.
“This year, we had a particularly young team with 12 of the 15 members either freshmen or sophomores,” shared NCCHS Science Olympiad Coach, Bradtke. “Barely any students have ever been on an academic team before and it is particularly gratifying as a coach to watch as the students practice their events and gain confidence in themselves and their skills over the course of the year. I'm really looking forward to working with the team next year as they continue on their journey. I'm also excited about the Middle School team which started up successfully this year since they can and can jump right onto the high school team when they get to the next level!"
Congratulations to both teams for a very successful showing at Delta Regionals!
