The Nouvel Catholic Central High School Science Olympiad team competed in a Regional competition at Delta College, earning 2
nd place and securing an opportunity to advance to the State competition.
Science Olympiad is an academic club where students compete in 23 Science and Math based events, covering a variety of fields. Teams are comprised of 15 members and go head-to-head against 14 other schools in their region.
Schools located in the following counties were eligible to compete in Region IV, Division C at Delta College: Arenac, Bay, Huron, Midland, Saginaw, Sanilac and Tuscola.
The emphasis of Science Olympiad is on problem solving and hands-on, minds-on learning practices. There are two broad categories for the events which include Building Events and Testing Events.
The team from NCCHS earned medals in 17 of the 23 events, finishing in second place overall. The top four teams in the region earn the opportunity to compete at the State level at Michigan State University on April 27. This is Nouvel’s 9
th consecutive year qualifying for the state competition.
The Science Olympiad team consists of Colette McConnell (9), Ryan Beyers (12), Anne Moskal (12), Jonathan Tunney (9), Mary Kolleth (11), Nathan Wardin (11), Maddie Champagne (12), Colton McRae (10), Noah Bartosiewicz (12), McKenna Adams (12), David Schultz (10), Joe Tunney (9), Parker Thiel (9), Caleb Pinkerton (9), Sophia Garcia (12) and Sergio Molinar (12). The team is coached by Carol and Mike Rangitsch and Mary and Mark Bradtke.
