On Saturday, February 29, seven Nouvel Catholic Central Middle School students competed in the annual MATHCOUNTS competition, hosted at Saginaw Valley State University.
MATHCOUNTS is a national middle school mathematics competition that builds problem-solving skills and fosters achievement through four levels of fun, in-person “bee” style contests.
The Nouvel Catholic Central team, comprised of seventh and eighth grade students, earned the award for most improved school. Two students received individual awards. Congratulations to Derek B. on receiving first place and Brady V. for receiving a second place victory.
Math Instructors, Teresa Colluci and Aubrey Walker coached the team again this year. The students had to put in extra hours outside of the classroom, coming in before school started and during lunch. “We are so proud of these students and the dedication they showed, said Coach Walker. “Not only did they work hard, they had fun while doing it.”
