Congratulations to Riley Mattheis, class of 2024 graduate, and Sydney Leslie, class of 2025, for receiving first place in the A.H. Nickless Innovation Award! Both Riley and Sydney receive up to a $5,000 scholarship and because of their first place finish, receive a $20,000 STEM education grant for our school. The team’s project, Find my Firefighter, was a GPS tracking device that gives the precise location of a firefighter so they can be found faster to reduce serious injuries.
This is the second year that Nouvel has entered the competition and won. Students were tasked to "think innovatively and develop solutions to problems affecting the world." Each team submits a project idea during phase 1 of the competition. Up to 20 projects are chosen to advance and the teams are given $1,000 to develop their projects. Those projects, including Riley and Sydney's, along with 4 other Nouvel teams, participated in the final competition the end of April.
Thanks to each of our students for representing Nouvel in this annual competition! These students have been hard at work since October, spending many hours putting their projects together. We are so proud of each student! A special thank you to Ms. Wagner for mentoring these teams.
